kpr-77 japan

Please Welcome the latest member of the Sakrecoer Family: KPR-77. Born 1983 in Japanese Korg factory and shipped out to an active and productive environment, it was found December 2009 in a warm Catalonia family home. It had been very well used, but it seems the owner couldn't stand watching it accumulate dust, and sent out a call for adoption, to save it from a digital depression. Of course, we had to respond. Actually, a sample pack for reason redrum machine from it has been in heavy use in the lo-fi tracks from 2005-2006 such as "Wide Open As A Book".

It seems it is the Korg response to the TR-606 by Roland. If you ask me, this box is much better than the 606 in many aspect, which doesn't seem to be the opinion of the majority of the internet. My theory about it, is that is has to do with the fact you have to program your drums by playing them. Many techno heads have a very good rhythm sense, but rarely is it well synchronized to their body movement, making the KPR-77 obsolete or "too complicated" in comparison to the simple step trigger display of the 606.... These are the point that makes me believe this machine has a fatter potential: it offers a higher quantization resolution (using din48). It has bigger tempo range. The volume of the instruments is controlled with faders like the 707, not knobs, allowing faster and easier muting of multiple tracks. And of course, the sounds are more original in the ear than the very much over used/heard Tr-606.

Stay tuned for the upcoming KPR-77 hits!
